About Bigleaf Accounting
Bigleaf Accounting LLC specializes in serving nonprofit organizations. Not-for-profit accounting can be more complex than for-profit accounting, so it’s important to hire a highly qualified certified public accountant who knows what they’re doing. By specializing in nonprofits, I understand what your organization needs and how it works. I can provide more personal, comprehensive service than a large firm that serves all types of organizations.
Many accounting firms come in and do it the way they know. This can be culturally disruptive and disjointed. I strive for a more personal approach, making a smooth transition toward better and stronger financial information.
If bookkeepers and accounting clerks are not doing something right, I teach them in building their skills. I advise management and boards of directors on their fiscal responsibilities and potential risks, and I can also help them with the budgeting process.
I chose the name Bigleaf because I am concerned about the extinction of life on earth. I believe trees can be a part of helping the climate. We need to plant, respect, and cherish trees more.
When a client was choosing new clinical software with an accounting package, I performed extensive research and analysis to advise them of their options. I helped them look at the end result (what the financials are used for) and transition the new software with very little disruption. They completed the software conversion between February and May 2020, when the pandemic was a huge crisis in health care. Luckily the client had great staff, and we accomplished the transition smoothly...a huge success.
About David Chapman, CPA
I like nothing better to learn all I can about an organization and how they operate. Then I use my financial and research experience, caring people skills, and problem-solving savvy to help them to accomplish their goals.
My career started as a statistical analyst for the Colorado Department of Labor, where I created the idea for a new computer application that saved significant time when performing research. This innovation was implemented in all 50 states and won a Bureau of Labor Statistics award.
I love solving mathematical problems and teaching and empowering others. As a caring and empathetic person, I strive to see the world as other people do and help them reach new heights of success. Having served on the boards of nonprofits in my community, I enjoy working with nonprofits in human services organizations because I get to indirectly help the people they serve.
I have a strong understanding of how 503c3s work, including donations, fulfilling government contracts and spending grant money in specific ways.
In my spare time, I appreciate the natural sciences, social sciences, and literature and am an avid reader. I enjoy hiking, weightlifting, and baking, especially my grandmother’s cookies and German stollen.
I learn something new every day in my accounting work, and I also strive for continuous improvement. Why not give me a call to see if Bigleaf Accounting can help you improve your organization?
